Peter de Bolla has been Professor of Cultural History and Aesthetics since at the Faculty of English at the University of Cambridge.  He has been a visiting Professor in Siegen, at Vanderbilt and will be at New York University in the Fall of and in Uppsala in the fall of  He is Director of the Cambridge Concept Lab in the Cambridge Centre for Digital Knowledge at CRASSH.

His research interests include eighteenth century British cultural history; the history of aesthetics; conceptual history; philosophical aesthetics; digital knowledge.

Biographical Information

Peter de Bolla has been Professor of Cultural History and Aesthetics since He has been a visiting Professor in Siegen, at Vanderbilt and New York University.  Between he was Director of the Cambridge Concept Lab.

      Meet Kenzie, second-year King's undergraduate and drummer in Cambridge band Mother 🥁 Mother - who play with singer Iona Luke - will join three other Cambridge student acts in the final of @cambridgeuniversity's band competition, Take It to the Bridge on 7 March. The winner of the competition will be awarded an artist support package, which includes studio time, a photoshoot, industry advice and the opportunity to record two songs of release quality. Kenzie says: "It’s been such a fun band to be part of, playing high quality gigs whilst also having lots of laughs, jokes, and audience interaction. I play a lot of drums around Cambridge outside of this band, drumming in jazz bands, big bands, the @cuwindorchestra, pit bands, bar nights, and with the @cambridgefootlights. As a multi-percussionist, I play orchestral percussion in the @camuniorchestra and jazz percussion in the University Jazz Orchestra, even headlining the Cambridge Jazz Festival and the Shostakovich Anniversary Festival.       Professor Peter de Bolla is Professor of Cultural History and Aesthetics in the Faculty of English at the University of Cambridge, a post he has held since He has been a visiting Professor in Siegen, at Vanderbilt and will be at New York University in the Fall of and in Uppsala in the fall of He is also the Director of the Cambridge Concept Lab in the Cambridge Centre for Digital Knowledge at CRASSH.

      His research interests include eighteenth century British cultural history; the history of aesthetics; conceptual history; philosophical aesthetics; digital knowledge.

      The Concept Lab in the Centre for Digital Knowledge treats concepts as structured environments for arriving at understanding. It seeks to describe in detail conceptual processing whereby concepts are constellated in patterns that connect one concept to another. The aim of the Lab is to test and refine the methodology of conceptual parsing and to create a database of specific conceptual architectures in historical projections.
