Amenemhat (III) Nimaatre (//97 BC)
King of the Twelfth Dynasty. He reigned about 45 years and is famous as builder of the the mortuary complex of the king at Hawara, at the entrance to the Fayum, probably the 'Labyrinth' that so impressed ancient Greek authors. There are several other buildings of the king in the Fayum (temple at Medinet Maadi, colossi at Biahmu) demonstrating the general interest of the king in that region of Egypt. His first pyramid was in Dahshur, but because of problems with the ground, another site (Hawara) was chosen for a second pyramid, towards the end of his reign. Especially in the Ptolemaic and Roman Periods the king was worshipped in the Fayum as a god. The sculpture of the king is remarkable for several unique statue types.

King Amenemhat III [– B.C] Ancient Kemet (Blacks)
King Amenemhat III is considered one of the most important pharaohs of the Middle Kingdom and the 12th Dynasty. He was a resolute director, a wise politician, and a great builder.
His reign was depicted as the golden period of the Middle Kingdom and the era of peace, stability and reconstruction after the wars fought by his father, King Senusert III, who may have shared with him in the rule of Kemet for 20 years.
The many wars of his great father, King Senusert III, gave this new pharaoh time to devote himself to building and construction. He carried out many military activities during his long reign. It is mentioned that he carried out a small military campaign in the ninth year of his rule.
Evidence of this military campaign came from a rock inscription near the famous Samna Castle built in Nubia.

The commander stated that he had returned safely to the north with a small military division, and that none of them had died when they went on their mission to the south. Abstract
A bust of Amenemhet III (XII Dynasty) in the National Museum of Rome, found in Rome, probably in the Pantheon area, where Pirro Ligorio saw it in the Sixteenth century, presents an example of unusual royal iconography. It is very similar to the well-known dyad of Amenemhet III from Tanis, now in the Cairo Museum, what allows virtual reconstruction of the original aspect of the statue from Rome. This iconographic type represents the king as the lord who nourishes the country, as the one related to the Nile and the fertility of Egypt. In fact, Amenemhet III was involved in large scale draining of the Fayum, that became a very important agricultural area, and he built his funerary complex (the so-called Labyrinth) at Hawara, near Fayum. In Greco-Roman period, he was still venerated there as the god Marres/Lamares/Premarres/Porromanres (from Egyptian pr-ʿȝ n(y)-mȝʿt-Rʿ), a deity linked to the local cobra-goddess, Isis-Thermuthis, ‘Lady of the Granaries’.
