Anyone lucky enough to get into one of Dr. Bill Hamilton's classes at College of the Sequoias (COS) or California State University, Fresno (CSUF), is unlikely to ever forget it. He taught with an energy, humor and passion uncommon for the average college experience. After a valiant struggle with cancer, the beloved professor and therapist passed from this plane into the next on Tuesday, October 16, William Hall Hamilton was born in Visalia on March 2, , to William and Virginia Hamilton. Bill attended Mt. Whitney High School and College of the Sequoias, completed his bachelor's and master's degrees at San Jose State University and earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the California School of Professional Psychology. In , Bill married Terri Snell, formerly of Tulare. In addition to his 25 year tenure at COS, Dr. Bill also taught human sexuality and master's-degree counseling students at CSUF and doctoral students at the California School of Professional Psychology, Fresno. Hamilton Hall completed his medical degree at the University of Toronto and immediately after internship joined CARE/MEDICO to travel to Malaysia where he was stationed in a rural hospital as part of a Canadian team of doctors, nurses and laboratory technicians.

Dr. Hall returned to Toronto for his orthopaedic residency which concluded with a fellowship in medical education at the University of Dundee, Scotland. He began orthopaedic practice at the Women’s College Hospital in , subsequently moving to the Toronto General Hospital, to the Orthopaedic and Arthritic Hospital and finally to the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre where he remains on the active orthopaedic staff. Dr. Hall is a Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto.

Because of his interest in education, in Dr. Hall began a lecture series to offer better understanding and positive advice for patients suffering with back pain.
