It&#;s been more than 20 years since the LDS Church updated the temple movie for the endowment ceremony, and this time, the church has produced 3 new movies. When I first attended the temple, Gordon Jump of WKRP in Cincinnati and later the Maytag Repair Man portrayed the apostle Peter in the temple dramatization.
When the Church updated the film in , opera singer Michael Ballam portrayed Satan, but now he&#;s out. From what I understand, as the church has introduced more temples to Africa, they&#;ve discovered that some African languages require more words to get explain the temple ceremony. So, the church has modified the entire ceremony, allowing more pauses to accommodate the African saints. This makes the ceremony about 15 minutes longer. Many temples had endowment ceremonies every 30 minutes, but due to the longer length of the endowment presentation, the church is encouraging temples to schedule sessions every hour. Some temples are experimenting with scheduling to see if they can do sessions more often, but this is leading to challenges.

A few years ago, the LDS Church produced 3 new films for the temple endowment, with 3 different sets of actors. Corbin Allred, who has played one of the kidnapped missionaries in Russia (a true life story) in the film The Saratov Approach, as well as Saints and Soldiers 1 and Saints and Soldiers 2 (note these are not sequels, although both WW2 movies) was the first actor to replace Michael Ballam from the older temple films. While I have enjoyed Corbin&#;s acting in the 3 movies mentioned above, it seems to me that Corbin is a bit of an over-actor in the temple film, and not really believable. He seems overly eager to get Eve to eat the forbidden fruit, and then over-the-top angry when God throws him out of the Garden of Eden.
I don&#;t know the second actor&#;s name, but he seems the most persuasive to me. He&#;s the cool Satan. He seems to use charm to get Eve to eat the fruit. From my perspective, I can see him as a seductive and persuasive. I can see why Eve would be convinced by him. I mean if Satan is the deceiver, this guy seems to be the best tempter.

My wife and I were finally able to see the new temple endowment film Friday night. I was really floored by it. I cried through most of the film and as I looked around the endowment room it appeared most other people were wiping away some tears.
The introduction of the Savior was done in a way that really touched me. But the key moment was when Eve meets Adam. The look of joy on her face was so radiant that it made me see them as real human beings rather than actors just reading lines. It really brought home for me the marvelous plan of man and woman joining together in eternal marriage and how we can be part of this plan.
I really enjoyed Eve&#;s process of arriving at the conclusion that she must eat the fruit. There is no other way for her to have children. The tears she sheds are real, and you can see that she &#; and eventually Adam &#; must also sacrifice and go through sorrow.
The film has many meaningful pauses that help drive home doctrinal points in new ways. I will not get into all of those things now, but I will say that this temple film is like a whole new story filled with new meanings and layers of information to help us understand our p
