The story of Orville Redenbacher and Charlie Bowman. . , In the s, the founders and partners of Chester, Inc., Charlie Bowman and Orville Redenbacher, developed and produced hybrid popcorn seed under the name Red Bow Popcorn (Red for Redenbacher and Bow for Bowman)., As one of the largest wholesale popcorn distributors in the Midwest, Red Bow Popcorn soon became popular and was known for its excellent quality and high popping volume. Thinking they had a winner with their product, Charlie Bowman felt they needed better branding recognition if they wanted to go nationwide in the retail market. They chose Orville's name and likeness to represent the brand. Today the name Orville Redenbacher is synonymous with popcorn throughout the world. Orville Redenbacher was born on a small corn farm in Brazil, Indiana on July 16, , to William Joseph Redenbacher and Julia Magdalena (Dierdorff) Redenbacher. He grew up on his family's farm where he sometimes sold popcorn from the back of his car.[1]
Orville graduated from Brazil High School in in the top 5% of his class. [2] He attended Purdue University, graduating in with a degree in Agronomy. [3]
Redenbacher was married to his first wife, Corinne Rosemund Strate, in In and they lived in Terre Haute, Vigo County, Indiana, United States.[4][5]
Corinne died May 24, Orville remarried later that year to his second wife, Nina Reder.

Orville spent most of his life in the agriculture industry, serving as a Farm Bureau extension agent in several counties. He also sold fertilizer and became quite wealthy but he never quit experimenting on his popcorn.[6]

In , Orville Redenbacher was born on a farm in Brazil, Indiana. The combination of living on a fertile farm and in the Midwest landscape allowed Redenbacher to begin growing his own popping corn. He started when he was just years-old. Redenbacher was able to quickly turn his budding hobby into a business. He saved enough money for college and attended Purdue University.
While in college, Redenbacher proved to be a Jack-of-all-trades. He ran track and cross-country, played the tuba in Purdue’s All-American Marching Band, and was the yearbook editor. Redenbacher graduated in with a degree in agronomy, the science of soil management and crop production. He was back on his way to pursuing his passion for popcorn.
